This set of bookends the Royal Castle in Warsaw  presents the emblematic image of the old town with the Royal Castle, built during the 14th century, then remodeled and rebuilt in the 18th century, cradle of the kings of Poland since the transfer of the capital from Krakow to Warsaw. After being burnt down and dynamited by the Germans, the castle was rebuilt between 1971 and 1984. The Sigismund column in front of the castle features King Sigismund of the Vasa dynasty, who transferred the capital to Warsaw. The third column was erected in 1948-1949, the last having been destroyed during the Second World War.
