Normandy Landing Bookends
Symbols of D-Day and Normandy were chosen for the creation of two bookends. Another more emblematic set of bookends was created around the figures of American soldiers, the famous GIs who fought on all fronts of the Second World War. Through the creation of these historical decorations, we aimed to pay homage to them in our own way.
We selected two scenes for the composition of this pair of bookends. An American soldier paying respects at the grave of his comrade-in-arms and another American soldier letting out a cry that can symbolize courage, determination, suffering, and the pain experienced by these liberators on that memorable day. The soldiers are dressed in their typical GI uniform with the M1 helmet produced in 22 million units during the war, the famous US Army canteen attached to the belt, and the US M1 7.62 mm caliber semi-automatic carbine, produced in over 6 million units. The edge of the bookends is personalized with a soldier's stripe (Private) from the US Army and the US Army star.
