The Eiffel Tower: History, Symbol of Paris, and Legacy of Gustave Eiffel
The Eiffel Tower, built between 1887 and 1889 for the 1889 World’s Fair in Paris, stands as a masterpiece of modern engineering. Conceived by engineer Gustave Eiffel, this bold structure, reaching 324 meters in height, was initially meant to be dismantled after the fair. Constructed from thousands of metal pieces joined with innovative riveting techniques, it quickly gained popularity and became an international symbol of French ingenuity. Gustave Eiffel, known for his expertise in metal structures, transformed the tower into an emblem of scientific and technological progress. Initially criticized by artists and intellectuals, the Eiffel Tower eventually won the hearts of Parisians and became an iconic monument. Today, it represents the boldness, creativity, and openness of France to the world. Over the years, it has welcomed millions of visitors and witnessed historic events, special illuminations, and artistic performances. The Eiffel Tower is now one of the most visited and photographed landmarks globally, a true symbol of French culture and a timeless beacon of Paris.
